2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week 17 – Saturday

West Bromwich Albion host Ipswich Town at The Hawthorns in a huge Sky Bet Championship clash.

Victory could see West Brom climb to fifth if Preston and Sunderland both fail to win elsewhere in mid-afternoon kick-offs.

Ipswich can go top with a win if Leicester fail to win at home to Watford in a mid-afternoon kick-off unless can claim the victory with a four-goal margin at minimum.

Prediction

Having suffered a scrappy defeat at Southampton a fortnight ago with two poor moments of defensive quality ruthlessly punished, West Brom now need to put that performance behind them and deliver better end product because they were more dominant yet finished chances poorly.

Ipswich meanwhile might feel that the omens are against them given their recent form in this fixture and particularly at The Hawthorns, but they do have belief given their goalscoring form but their defending has to improve.

Kieran McKenn’a Tractor Boys though have enjoyed two positive returns from international breaks this season with clean sheets in wins away from home, which is a positive sign to take into this game where they are surely going to be tested a lot in terms of defending.

A draw though would be a fair outcome because I can see Ipswich continuing their goalscoring form, but West Brom should have enough to beat the visitors’ defence given how leaky the visitors have been on the road in recent weeks.

Prediction: WBA 1-1 Ipswich

Result: WBA 2-0 Ipswich
