2023-24 UEFA Champions League: Group Stage – Matchweek Three Roundup

Roundup of the third matchweek of 2023-24 UEFA Champions League’s Group Stage.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle entered this round looking to push on in their search of knockout stage qualification, whilst Manchester United and Celtic sought to ignite their own challenges to qualify for the next round.

Now, here is a full roundup of all the action across all eight groups.

 

Group A

Second half goals from Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala saw Bayern Munich extend their lead at the top of Group A to five points with a 3-1 win away to Galatasaray, after Kingsley Coman’s opening goal was cancelled out by Mauro Icardi.

Harry Maguire’s 72nd minute header sealed an emotional winer for Manchester United at home to Copenhagen, on a night when the Red Devils paid tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton at Old Trafford.

 

Group B

Goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus saw Arsenal defeat Sevilla 2-1 in Seville to move top of Group B, despite Nemanja Gudelj denying the Gunners a clean sheet.

Lens slipped to second as Elye Wahi cancelled out Johan Bakayoko’s goal to snatch a 1-1 draw at home to PSV Eindhoven.

 

Group C

Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham fired Group C leaders, Real Madrid to a 2-1 away win at Braga despite Djalo netting a consolatory 63rd minute goal for the hosts.

Napoli sat second again as Giacomo Raspadori snatched a 65th minute away winner against Union Berlin.

 

Group D

Brais Mendez netted a 38th minute winner as Group D leaders, Real Sociedad scraped past Benfica to stay top.

Hakan Calhanoglu scored a 64th minute penalty to seal a 2-1 win for second-placed Inter Milan at home to Red Bull Salzburg, in which Alexis Sanchez’s opening goal had been cancelled out by Oscar Gloukh’s equaliser.

 

Group E

Feyenoord moved top of Group E with a 3-1 home win over Lazio as Santiago Gimenez scored twice and Ramiz Zerrouki struck for the hosts, whilst Pedro struck a late penalty for the Italian visitors.

Atletico Madrid slipped to second after they twice fought back through Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata in a 2-2 draw at Celtic, who had led through Kyogo Furuhashi and Luis Palma before Atletico’s Rodrigo De Paul was red carded in the 82nd minute.

 

Group F

Kylian Mbappe, Randal Kolo Muani and Lee Kang-in all netted as PSG thrashed AC Milan 3-0 in Paris to move top of Group F.

Newcastle slipped to third behind Borussia Dormtund who moved into second courtesy of Felix Nmecha’s maiden Champions League goal, which proved the difference in a scrappy contest at St James’ Park.

 

Group G

Erling Haaland’s late brace saw Group G leaders, Manchester City stay top with a 3-1 away win at Young Boys, after Manuel Akanji’s opening goal had been cancelled out by Meschack Elia’s equaliser.

Goals from David Raum, Xavier Simons and Dani Olmo fired RB Leipzig to a 3-1 home win over Red Star Belgrade.

 

Group H

First half goals from Ferran Torres and Fermin Lopez saw Barcelona stay top of Group H with a 2-1 win at home to Shakhtar Donetsk, despite Heorhiy Sudakov netting a 62nd minute consolatory goal for the Ukrainian visitors.

Evanilson’s hat-trick and Eustaquio’s strike fired Porto to a comeback 4-1 win at Royal Antwrp after Alhassan Yusuf had put the hosts in front.
