UEFA Euro 2024: Qualifying Group B – Gibraltar vs Republic of Ireland

Gibraltar host Republic of Ireland at Estadio Algarve in Group B of UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying.

Regardless of their result, Gibraltar will remain bottom of Group B due to their inferior results and goal difference.

Ireland will stay fourth no matter the outcome but a win will ensure that they can’t finish rock bottom of this group.

Gibraltar have no fresh injury concerns following their friendly defeat away to Wales last week.

Ireland have no fresh injury concerns to report after their loss to Greece but manager, Stephen Kenny could rotate and hand starts to players like Dara O’Shea, Jamie McGrath and Adam Idah who were all on the bench on Friday evening.

When is Kick-Off?

Gibraltar host Republic of Ireland at Estadio Algarve, Faro, on Monday 16 October at 8:45pm CEST (7:45pm UK Time), live on Viaplay Sport 1 in the UK.

Prediction

With no goals in all competitions this year and already eliminated from contention for qualification, Gibraltar now have a free roll of the dice tactically in their final three games.

Defending however has been Gibraltar’s weak point for years which showed once again in their shambolic first-half effort at Wales, so it is vital that they tighten up at the back here if want to try and get a win with a clinical end product.

Ireland meanwhile have nothing to fear with qualification ambitions now over after a tough defeat to Greece, yet this is a chance to instil some confidence ahead of their final qualifier away to the Netherlands so I expect them to come out fighting and comfortably dominate.

Quite frankly, this does feel like Ireland’s match to lose and I do expect them to comfortably take the win if players like Evan Ferguson can find their goalscoring boots.

Prediction: Gibraltar 0-2 ROI

Result: Gibraltar 0-4 ROI
