2023-24 Premier League: Week Seven – Luton vs Burnley

Luton Town face Burnley at Kenilworth Road in a huge rearranged showdown in the Premier League.

Victory would see Luton climb to 15th in the table, whilst Burnley could climb out of the relegation zone with a win if achieve a two-goal or more winning margin.

Tom Lockyer is set to be available for Luton despite suffering a whack to his eye during the Hatters’ win at Everton last weekend.

Ross Barkley (hamstring) is a doubt but Albert Sambi Lokonga (hamstring), Gabriel Osho (knee), Jordan Clark and Dan Potts (both knock) remain absent.

Burnley will welcome forward, Lyle Foster back into contention following his return from a three-match suspension.

Manuel Benson (ankle), Hjalmar Ekdal (knee), Michael Obafemi (hamstring), Johann Berg Gudmundsson (muscle), Nathan Redmond and Darko Churlinov (both unspecified) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Luton host Burnley at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday 3 October in a 7:30pm BST kick-off, untelevised live in the UK although Sky will broadcast highlights from 10:15pm in the evening.

Stat Attack

  • This is Luton’s first Premier League meeting against Burnley.
  • Burnley have won three of their last five visits to Luton (W3, L2).
  • Luton are winless in their last six meetings against Burnley (D3, L3).
  • All three of Carlton Morris’ goals for Luton this season have been scored on his right foot.
  • No Burnley player has won more aerial duels this season than Sander Berge (9).

Having struggled at times in their opening five league games, Luton finally looked settled in their win at Everton with a clinical attacking display complete with a resilient defence which were excellent aside from a moment of poor marking yet they dug in to secure a morale-boosting result.

Burnley meanwhile will be disappointed with how they failed to build upon their Carabao Cup win at Salford with defeat at Newcastle, where their end product issues once again haunted them on top of sloppy defensive errors.

Neither defence however is particularly strong but now that they’ve got a win under their belt, I do expect Luton to kick on now with some momentum behind them if want to boost their survival chances, whereas Burnley must win here if want to keep pace with their likely relegation rivals.

The Kenilworth Road faithful however will feel that this can be the start of a gearshift in the right direction and if Luton play like they did at Everton, I can see them just snatching a potentially early decisive win over their fellow promoted rivals.

Prediction: Luton 1-0 Burnley

Result: Luton 1-2 Burnley
