Huddersfield Town have announced that manager, Neil Warnock will leave the club, following their home match against Stoke on 20 September 2023.

Warnock’s decision to depart comes as the Terriers sit 17th in the Championship with seven points from their opening six league matches.

The 74 year-old however has agreed following discussions with the club that he will take charge of Huddersfield for their home match against Stoke on Wednesday 20 September, in what will be his 132nd and final match as manager of the club across two spells.

In an official statement, Huddersfield’s Chief Executive, Jake Edwards thanked Warnock “on behalf of everyone at the football club,” with “huge gratitude” for delivering an “incredible job” in the past six clubs to keep the Terriers in the second-tier.

Edwards went on to speak about the importance of that escape with the assistance of Ronnie Jepson as he continued: “Keeping this club in the Sky Bet Championship, given the position the team was in when they arrived in February, was nothing short of amazing,” to avoid a tense final day.

Edwards added that Warnock and Jepson will leave strong legacies, as he said: “They are both, undeniably, Huddersfield Town legends, and have cemented their positions in this club’s history, especially after they stayed on during a change of ownership and regime establishment.

Owner, Kevin Nagle consequently felt that now was the right time for a change with Warnock in agreement, as Edwards explained: “At this point, we now feel we are ready to make a longer-term managerial appointment.

“I’ve had detailed discussions with Neil and, alongside Ronnie, Carl Serrant and Ian Bennett, he’s agreed to step aside to allow us to do this.”

Confirmation of Warnock’s replacement will be announced in due course as the Terriers continue to focus upon their Championship campaign, where they sit five points clear of the relegation zone.
