Coventry City have signed forward, Haji Wright from Antalyaspor for a club-record transfer fee.
Wright has spent the last two seasons at Turkey’s Antalyaspor where he scored 31 goals in 54 senior appearances.
Coventry meanwhile sold Viktor Gyokeres to Sporting Lisbon for a club-record sale fee earlier this summer, and have reinvested £7.7m of that sale in swooping for Wright who has signed a four-year contract until June 2027.
Speaking about his decision to join Coventry and play in the Championship, Wright described the opportunity as “amazing,” and is “really excited” to get the season underway as he quipped that the move “was an easy decision to make.”
Wright also iterated that fans can expect to see him in amongst the attacking action a lot, as he added: “Hopefully a lot of goals and a lot of assists and someone who works hard and does his best for the team.”
Manager, Mark Robins meanwhile is “delighted” to sign the 25 year-old striker who he described as “a quick, powerful striker, and a very good finisher, who will add another exciting attacking dynamic to our play and clear quality to our squad.”
Coventry Owner and Executive Chairman, Doug King added that the club had been monitoring Wright’s career “for many months”, and is of belief that Wright “will be a hugely exciting addition to our Club.”
Wright will be available for selection in Coventry’s opening away trip to Leicester on Sunday 6 August, in a 12pm BST kick-off live on Sky Sports.
Wright began his career with New York Cosmos before joining Schalke who sent him out on loan to SV Sandhausen in 2017-18 season, before he enjoyed spells with VVV-Venlo and Sønderjyske.
The 25 year-old also represents USA in international football and has scored twice in seven senior appearances, including in the Americans’ 3-1 loss to Netherlands in Round of 16 at 2022 FIFA World Cup
