Luton Town have signed defender, Ryan Giles from Wolves for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Giles’ move sees him reunited with Luton manager, Rob Edwards who gave the 23 year-old his first taste of football on loan at AFC Telford in 2018.

Giles went on to make his Wolves debut and only appearance against Shrewsbury in a FA Cup Fourth Round tie in January 2019 which finished 2-2, and went on to play for the Shrews on loan in the first half of the following season.

He then spent a year on loan at Coventry from January 2021 before he went to Rotherham for rest of 2021-22 season.

Last season saw the 23 year-old enjoy loan spells at Cardiff and Middlesbrough, of which he created 11 assists at the latter club who reached the Championship Play-Offs, only to lose to his former team – Coventry.

“I’ve reached the point that at my age that I’ve had a lot of loans and I feel those experiences have made me the player and the person I am today. Now this is a different direction, a new beginning, a new chapter,” commented Giles in his first interview as a Luton player

Giles proceeded to reflect upon reuniting with Edwards as he added: “I’m grateful to Rob for giving me my first taste of men’s football and now with the chance to work with him again, especially in the Premier League, it is a fantastic opportunity.”

Teasing what Luton fans can expect from him, Giles said: “I thrive off creating chances and I can’t wait to get to know my teammates and get the fans off their seats. I’m really excited and want to hit the ground running.”

Edwards meanwhile described Giles as “a really exciting” player and praised him for last season being “…  one of the most outstanding wide players in the Championship.”

The ex Watford boss also warned fans of Giles’ threat from crosses as he added: “He’s got electric pace and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone who can cross a ball on the run with the quality he can while at full speed.

“He’s going to help us in those moments when we need to transition quickly, and he also possesses outstanding set-piece quality.

“He goes into the mix with Issa and Alfie for those wing-back positions which is a really exciting area for us.

“He’s shown he’s a very, very good Championship player who is now hungry to show what he can do in the Premier League.”
