Channel Four have secured broadcast rights to the 2023 UEFA Under-21s Euros Final between England and Spain.

No UK broadcaster has broadcast any of this year’s Under-21s Euros due to failing to meet UEFA’s asking price, with Talksport Radio instead covering England’s semi-final victory over Israel.

Channel 4 have subsequently decided to pick up the broadcast rights for the Final which sees England take on Spain tomorrow (8 July) at 5pm UK Time in Adjarabet Arena, Batumi, Georgia.

Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer, Ian Katz said that the broadcaster is “delighted” to secure live coverage of the showpiece match, with England attempting to win the competition for the third time in their history and for the first time since 1984.

Katz also spoke of Channel 4’s record of broadcasting “a number of historic sporting moments to a free to air audience in recent years”, which included Max Verstappen’s controversial title triumph over Lewis Hamilton at 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix plus England’s Cricket World Cup success in 2019.

The match forms part of a Super Saturday for Channel 4 who will air Free Practice 3 and Qualifying for F1’s British Grand Prix earlier that day, with the Qualifying session serving as lead-in to the football coverage.

Jules Breach will host Channel 4’s coverage of the UEFA Under-21s Final with Steve Bower on commentary duty, with pundits yet to be confirmed at time of publication.

This announcement comes 24 hours after Channel 4 agreed a new three-year deal with Sky to continue broadcasting F1 highlights on free-to-air TV alongside live coverage of British GP weekend until end of 2026 season.
