Channel 4 have renewed their broadcast partnership with Sky which will keep F1 available on free-to-air until 2026.
C4 will continue to air highlights of Qualifying and races from across every round, plus Sprint Races on selected race weekends across the next three seasons, in line with their current rights outside of the British Grand Prix.
The British GP will remain free-to-air on Channel 4 live across the entire race weekend at Silverstone, covering Practice, Qualifying and the race itself.
Channel 4’s Chief Executive, Alex Mahon said that the broadcaster is “thrilled” to agree a fresh long-term deal to keep F1 present on free-to-air through a mixture of live and highlight action, having previously only signed a one-year agreement for this current season.
Mahon iterated that this deal will benefit British F1 fans at a time when sport is increasingly moving towards Pay TV outside of listed Sporting events, ensuring that F1 has a “much wider reach and prominence with British audiences.
Sky UK and Ireland CEO, Stephen van Rooyen added: “Together with Channel 4 we’ve shared some of the most iconic moments in sporting history and our relationship is as strong as ever.
“The length and nature of this deal shows Sky’s deep commitment to help increase the reach of Formula 1 and continue to support one of the most exhilarating, and fastest growing sports in the world.”
This announcement comes as Channel 4 prepares to broadcast the 2023 British GP live this weekend from Silverstone, having held the rights in various forms since 2016 when BBC relinquished their share of the split rights in late 2015.
