Arsenal have signed defender, Amanda Ilestedt on a free trasnfer from PSG.
Ilestedt’s move comes after a two-year stint at PSG where she helped the French club to the 2021-22 Coupe de France Feminine title, as well as two runners-up finishes in Division 1 Feminine behind Lyon.
“I’m really excited and happy to be here,” commented Illestedt on her free transfer to Arsenal, having previously played for; FC Rosengard, Turbine Potsdam and Bayern Munich plus most recently – PSG.
Having enjoyed immense success in her career, Illestedt iterated that she is keen to win titles with Arsenal as she explained: “My goal is to win titles and this is a great club with great players and fantastic facilities, so I believe this is the right place for me to achieve that.
“There is a real sense of momentum around this club and the support has been wonderful – I can’t wait to walk out onto the pitch in the Arsenal kit.”
Arsenal Women’s Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall added that he is “delighted” to sign Illestedt who will bring “extensive international experience” plus “a great mix of presence and technical ability, making her an ideal fit for our squad.”
This move will also reunite Illestedt and Eidevall – who had previously coached the 30 year-old during his time at FC Rosengard, where she won nine titles in total – of which two Damallsvenskan titles were won under Eidevall’s reign.
Speaking about the chance to coach Ilestedt again, Eidevall commented: “I enjoyed working with Amanda during our time in Sweden and am looking forward to coaching her here at Arsenal too.”
Ilestedt has earned 64 international caps and scored eight goals representing Sweden since 2013, and was part of their team which finished third at 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Arsenal’s Head of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley added that Ilestedt will add quality and experience to their defence, as she said: “She has a proven track record in domestic, European and international football and we believe she will strengthen our squad in a key area as we look ahead to the new season.”
