Brighton & Hove Albion have sent goalkeeper, James Beadle on a season-long loan to Oxford United for 2023-24 season.

Beadle spent the second half of last season on loan with League Two’s Crewe Alexandra where he made nine appearances, until an ankle injury curtailed his season.

Brighton however were pleased with Beadle’s “successful” loan stint at Crewe and believe that the 18 year-old is ready for League One football, with Oxford United this season although his loan deal won’t commence until 1 July 2023.

Brighton Men’s Under-21s Head Coach, Shannon Ruth explained that the club are “pleased” to see Beadle handed the chance to play in League One, despite making just nine appearances for Crewe last season in League Two.

Ruth also iterated that Beadle’s progress will be monitored, as he commented: “Sal Bibbo and Gordon Greer will be keeping a close eye on his progress and we wish him the best of luck for the season.”

Speaking to oufc.co.uk about his loan move, Beadle said that he is “excited” to step up to the third-tier following discussions with the club, as he said: “I met with Liam Manning and was hugely impressed by his plans and how the club is set up. I’m really looking forward to playing my part in a successful season.”

Manning added that he is eager to get into pre-season with Beadle as he explained: “He is highly rated and for good reason – he’s tall, athletic, commands his area and is a modern keeper who distributes the ball really well.

“Even though he’s only 18, he has a fantastic attitude, and we can’t wait to start working with him to continue his development.”

Oxford United’s Head of Recruitment, Ed Waldron meanwhile iterated that Beadle has “a very bright future” ahead of him, as he praised the England Under-20s goalkeeper for his “excellent” performances at Crewe.

Waldron also praised Beadle and Brighton for letting him come to the club, as he added: “It’s great that he wants to come here, and further recognition that Premier League clubs like Brighton will send players out to us, knowing we will look after them and nurture the talent they have.”
