Chelsea have signed forward, Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig for an undisclosed fee.

Nkunku’s move comes after he scored 58 goals in 88 appearances for RB Leipzig across the last two seasons, which saw various clubs across Europe seek to sign him amidst Leipzig’s desire to retain the 25 year-old despite lengthy negotiations with Chelsea across last season.

“I am incredibly happy to be joining Chelsea,” commented Nkunku upon confirmation of his move as he vowed to repay the club’s faith in bringing him to the Premier League on a six-year contract until June 2029.

Acknowledging the lengthy negotiations which brought about his move to Chelsea, Nkunku said: “A big effort was made to bring me to the club and I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and teammates and showing the Chelsea supporters what I can do on the pitch.

The 25 year-old previously played for France’s PSG before he moved to Leipzig in July 2019 and having experienced both Ligue 1 and Bundesliga football, Nkunku is “very excited” to experience “one of the strongest leagues in the world.”

Nkunku will also bring trophy winning experience after having won 11 titles in total in various competitions with PSG and RB Leipzig.

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley meanwhile praised Nkunku as “one of the standout attacking players in European football over the past two seasons”, who they hope can “add quality, creativity and versatility to our squad.”

Nkunku will join up with his new teammates in early July as the club prepares for Mauricio Pochettino‘s arrival as manager, in hope of improving upon last season’s disastrous campaign which saw them finish 12th in the Premier League and suffer early exits in both domestic cup competitions.
