West Ham captain, Declan Rice believes that UEFA Europa Conference League success feels “special” after a 58-year wait for European glory.
Jarrod Bowen’s 90th minute winner saw West Ham defeat Fiorentina 2-1 in Prague, Czech Republic, to secure their first major European title in 58 years after Said Benrahma’s penalty had been cancelled out by Fiorentina’s Giacomo Bonaventura.
“I don’t even know what to say!” beamed Rice as he described the win as “just a different level!”
Speaking to whufc.com, Rice revealed that it is the fans that he delivers his best for despite various highs and lows as he said: “Genuinely, I’ve been doing interviews with you for six years now and we’ve had ups and we’ve had downs, but this is what you do it for, these nights, these fans.
“Look how special it is. I’m telling you now, look at them, what a special group of people. It’s incredible and I’m just so happy.”
This summer could see the defensive midfielder leave for Arsenal who are reportedly keen to sign the England international.
“Do you know what? I don’t even know what to say!” he continued as he praised the supporters for their support as he added: “Those fans have been so good to me, honestly, I’m lost for words. This Club means so much to me.
“I just try to be myself, but as much as I’m happy for myself, I’m happy for people who have been here for so long, seen it all, taken on negativity, had positive moments… I don’t think it can ever get better than this. It’s just another level.”
“I genuinely don’t know what to do!” concluded Rice as he joked that he will “get the trophy remade” to put in his “nice trophy cabinet at home,”, whilst iterating that this success is for club supporters as he exclaimed: “It’s for the fans. I love you all!”
