Midfielder, Youri Tielemans is one of seven players who will leave Leicester at end of 2022-23 season.

Having been the subject of various transfer rumours throughout his time at Leicester, Tielemans now leaves the club upon expiration of his contract on 30 June following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League.

The Belgian will be best remembered for his strike which secured Leicester their first-ever FA Cup title in 2021, which is just one of 28 goals that he produced in 195 appearances for the Foxes since he joined on an initial loan from Monaco in January 2019.

Tielemans’ fellow midfielders – Daniel Amartey and Nampalys Mendy will also depart the club at the end of June.

Amartey’s exit comes seven-and-a-half years after he joined from Copenhagen, during which he contributed three goals in 145 appearances, whilst also playing as a right-back or centre-back when required during his time at the club.

Mendy meanwhile joined in July 2016 from Nice and has produced just one goal in 118 appearances, amidst a loan spell back at Nice during 2017-18 season.

Forward, Ayoze Perez will also be released at the conclusion of his contract having scored 15 goals in 114 appearances, during which he enjoyed a loan spell at Real Betis in the second-half of this season after struggling for game time.

Caglar Soyuncu and Ryan Bertrand are the only defenders to be released, with Soyuncu’s exit coming after five seasons at the King Power Stadium in which he contributed four goals in 132 appearances.

Bertrand meanwhile joined from Southampton in July 2021 but he managed just 11 appearances, which all came during last season as a persistent knee injury sidelined him for the entirety of this campaign.

Right-winger, Tete meanwhile will return to Shakhtar Donetsk following the conclusion of his loan spell, having scored one goal in 14 appearances since he arrived in late January – which came on his debut in a 4-2 win at Aston Villa.

In a short statement confirming the seven departures, Leicester said: “The Football Club extends its thanks to all seven players for their contributions during their time with Leicester City and wishes them every success in the next stages of their respective careers.”

Defender, Jonny Evans meanwhile is still in negotiations over a new contract with his current deal set to expire at end of this month.

Leicester have activated an one-year extension on the contract of midfielder, Hamza Choudhury to keep him at the club until June 2024.
