Australian defender, Steph Catley has signed a new contract at Arsenal.

Catley joined Arsenal from NWSL’s OL Reign in July 2020 and has since scored three goals in 74 appearances for the Gunners, during which she helped the team win this season’s Women’s League Cup in March 2023 – beating Chelsea 3-1 in the Final.

“It feels amazing – this feels like home,” commented Catley once she signed her new latest contract, just over a year after she previously extended her contract in May 2022.

The 29 year-old proceeded to admit that she didn’t have any doubts about committing her future to the club, as she added: “I’ve made some incredible friendships here and when the offer came around I knew exactly what I wanted to do and exactly where I wanted to be.

“I’ve never been happier playing football and I feel like this team is very special – we’re building something special and in the future we’re capable of achieving anything.”

Arsenal Women’s Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall added that he is “delighted” to retain Catley as the club prepare to fight for four titles next season – including the defence of their League Cup title.

Eidevall proceeded to praise Catley for her professionalism as he continued: “Steph is one of the best defenders in the game and brings so much to this group both on and off the pitch.

“She’s a model professional and has delivered time and again when called upon throughout my time here, so we’re all pleased to say Steph will continue to be a part of Arsenal for years to come.”

Arsenal’s Head of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley added that Catley “is one of the top players in the world in her position and has been such a consistent performer in the time she has been here.”

Wheatley added that Catley has a huge role to play at the club as she commented: “She is a key part of this team and we’re delighted to say she will continue to wear the Arsenal colours moving forward.”
