2022-23 Premier League: Week 37 – Tottenham vs Brentford

Tottenham Hotspur meet Brentford at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the race for Europa League qualification.

Victory would see Tottenham climb to sixth in the table, whereas a win would see Brentford stay ninth but move to within one point of their London rivals.

Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier are doubts for Tottenham after knocks forced the pair to miss last weekend’s defeat at Aston Villa.

Hugo Lloris (muscle), Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring) and Rodrigo Bentancur (ACL) remain absent.

Brentford will be without striker, Ivan Toney as he begins an eight-month suspension from all football activities, due to being found guilty of various breaches of FA Betting rules.

Thomas Strakosha (calf), Pontus Jansson (hamstring), Christian Norgaard (Achilles) and Keane Lewis-Potter (knee) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Tottenham host Brentford at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a 12:30pm BST kick-off on Saturday 20 May, live on BT Sport 1 in the UK.

Prediction

With just four points from six matches in an inconsistent second-half of the season, Spurs should be thankful that their home form has kept them in the mix for European qualification – having scored 19 points on home turf compared to just eight points on the road.

Spurs however have taken just four points in their last six games and after a lacklustre performance at Aston Villa last weekend minus excellent goalkeeping, a huge improvement is imperative otherwise they’re going into the final day under huge pressure.

Brentford on the other hand might be without Toney for the next eight months but having delivered an energetic win against West Ham without him last weekend, there shouldn’t be too much to worry about especially if can replicate that attacking quality in North London.

Thomas Frank’s Bees though haven’t exactly delivered results wise on the road lately but their performances otherwise have been just as strong, whilst they can take additional motivation from their strong away form in London derbies this season.

Either way, I do hope that this is a competitive battle but if Tottenham don’t turn up with the intensity to match Brentford, there is surely going to be one winner no matter how strong Spurs are at home.

Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Brentford

Result: Tottenham 1-3 Brentford
