2021-22 Premier League: Week 14 Roundup

Chelsea continue to sit at the Premier League summit for an eighth consecutive matchweek following a packed first midweek round of 2021-22 season.

Hakim Ziyech’s strike kept Chelsea top of the table after snatching a 2-1 win at Watford after Emmanuel Dennis cancelled out Mason Mount’s opener, following a 32 minute delay after a medical emergency in the stands during the first half.

First-half goals from Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva saw Manchester City remain a point behind in second following a 2-1 win at Aston Villa, despite Ollie Watkins’ 47th minute consolatory goal for the Villains.

Mohamed Salah netted twice as Liverpool thrashed Everton 4-1 at Goodison Park in the Merseyside derby to stay third, with Jordan Henderson and Diogo Jota also scoring for the Reds whilst Demarai Gray struck for the Toffees in the 38th minute.

West Ham remain fourth after Tomas Soucek’s header was cancelled out by Neal Maupay’s 89th minute bicycle kick, as Brighton fought back for a 1-1 draw at London Stadium.

Down in the relegation zone, Newcastle remain rock-bottom after Teemu Pukki’s 79th minute volley cancelled out Callum Wilson’s penalty, as second-bottom Norwich came from behind to draw 1-1 at St James’ Park.

Burnley remain third bottom after finding themselves held to a goalless draw at Wolves.

Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 800th and 801st career goals with a second-half brace as Manchester United came from behind to defeat Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford, as new manager – Ralf Rangnick watched from the stands.

Tottenham defeated Brentford 2-0 in a cross-London derby as Sergi Canos deflected Ben Davies’ header into his own net, before Son Heung-min scored on the counter-attack in the second half.

Southampton twice blew an one-goal lead as Leicester fought back through Jonny Evans and James Maddison to snatch a scrappy 2-2 draw at St Mary’s Stadium.

Finally, Raphinha struck an injury-time penalty winner following Marc Guehi’s handball as Leeds condemned Crystal Palace to a second consecutive defeat.
