2022-23 Premier League: Week 36 – Leicester vs Liverpool

Relegation-battling Leicester City meet top-four chasing Liverpool at King Power Stadium in Monday Night Football.

Victory would see Leicester climb out of the relegation zone at Everton’s expense and go 17th in the table, whilst Liverpool will move back to within one point of the top four with a win.

Leicester have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 5-3 defeat at Fulham on Coronation Bank Holiday Monday.

Ryan Bertrand (knee), Jannik Vestergaard (calf), Kelechi Iheanacho (adductor) and James Justin (Achilles) remain absent.

Liverpool have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 1-0 win against Brentford last weekend.

Naby Keita, Roberto Firmino (both muscle), Thiago Alcantara (hip), Calvin Ramsay (knee) and Stefan Bajcetic (adductor) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off

Leicester host Liverpool at the King Power Stadium in a 8pm BST kick-off on Monday 15 May, live on Sky Sports in UK.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester have claimed just seven points from their last 11 meetings against Liverpool (W2, D1, L8).
  • Liverpool have won three of their last five visits to Leicester but have lost their two most recent visits (W3, L2).
  • Mohamed Salah has scored in just two of Liverpool’s last five visits to Leicester.
  • Leicester have conceded first in each of their last 11 league matches at home (W2, D2, L7).
  • Cody Gakpo has scored in each of Liverpool’s last two away matches (W2).

Prediction

With relegation looking an increasingly serious possibility, Leicester now need to take advantage of their rivals slipping up if they want to put their fate into their own hands in their final two games.

Defending though has to be more disciplined after a gutless display at Fulham because aside from a largely unavoidable conceded opening goal, Leicester gave the Cottagers too much space and time for their four further goals without any intensity in their marking to close gaps down.

Liverpool on the other hand are unbeaten in six matches after their narrow win at home to Brentford last weekend, but their end product was largely wasteful despite energetic turnovers from defence into attacks coupled with resilient defending.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds though have lost their last two visits to Leicester and with the crowd likely to be on their backs from the start, Dean Smith’s Foxes really must score first to give themselves any hope but I just can’t see Liverpool slipping up here if they get in front.

Prediction: Leicester 1-3 Liverpool

Result: Leicester 0-3 Liverpool
