Russell Martin has been appointed as Leicester City manager until June 2029.
Martin’s appointment has ended his eight-month absence from management after he was sacked by Rangers in October 2025, with the 40 year-old having signed a three-year contract at Leicester until June 2029.
In his first statement as manager, Martin explained that he is excited to take charge of the club as they prepare for their first season in League One since 2008-09 season with a focus on building bonds and standards which the fans can have pride in witnessing.
“I’m delighted to be here and excited to begin working with the players and staff. This is a Club with great history, strong support and high expectations, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the Club, the city and the supporters.
“My immediate focus is on the team: building strong relationships, setting clear standards and creating performances that Leicester City supporters can connect with and be proud of.”
Leicester’s Sporting Director, James McCarron added that Martin will be supported by a structure which gives him and the squad the ability to deliver top performances on a consistent basis.
“Russell will be supported by a football structure focused on alignment, accountability and high standards. Our role is to make sure the right environment is in place around the team.
“That means creating an environment where players and staff can perform at their best, strengthening the culture across the football operation and ensuring our work in recruitment, development and performance is aligned and consistent.”
Martin has previously managed MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton before his four-month stint at Rangers.
