Leicester left-back Luke Thomas has praised his teammates for their performance in a “difficult” 2-2 draw against Everton.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin had put Everton in front from the penalty spot before goals from Caglar Soyuncu and Jamie Vardy put Leicester in front at half-time, only for Sean Dyche’s Toffees to snatch a draw through Alex Iwobi’s 54th minute goal.

The result nevertheless lifted Leicester out of the relegation zone at Nottingham Forest’s expense and up to 16th on goal difference from Leeds and Forest.

Speaking post-match to LCFC TV, Thomas admitted that the draw is a fair result given the competiveness of both teams involved, as he commented: “Definitely you could see towards the end of the game, it was such an open game, a very end-to-end game.

“It was a difficult one to play in, but it’s a point and we can move on from that now.”

Thomas applauded Soyuncu and Vardy for delivering “great goals” because he felt that they weren’t “very good on the ball” throughout the first half, which made holding a 2-1 lead at half-time a “positive” feeling.

For Vardy, his goal marked the first time that he had scored in consecutive games this season but Thomas has iterated that the 36 year-old now must “kick on in these last four games and get some more for us.”

“We had the chances, but if you look at it, so did they,” continued Thomas as he praised Daniel Iversen for his “unbelievable saves” to deny Everton further goals, which meant that the Foxes clung on for a crucial draw which he thought finished like “a bit of a basketball game towards the end.”

Underlining how crucial Iversen was to the result, Thomas added: “Some of the saves he has made have kept us in the game. He made a couple in the first half. Iwobi’s chance, Calvert-Lewin’s where he’s two yards out, so that’s really positive and a great performance from himself.”

The draw also meant that Leicester are unbeaten in their last three games and are now out of the relegation zone with just four games left of the season, which Thomas is pleased with given how much his team has “struggled” this season to create solid points-scoring runs.

Leicester now head to mid-table Fulham on Bank Holiday Monday 8 May, where a win could put them three points clear of the drop.
