Leicester City have parted company with manager, Brendan Rogers after four years at the club.
The decision to relieve Rogers of his duties was settled via ‘a mutual agreement’ between club and manager, following a difficult season in which the Foxes currently sit 18th in the Premier League and are amongst nine clubs fighting for survival.
Leicester also have claimed just one point from their last six games in a season where defending has been a huge issue with 53 goals conceded in all competitions, underlining their struggles to efficiently replace players like Kasper Schmeichel and Wesley Fofana who left last summer.
Rogers though leaves as one of Leicester’s most successful managers, having guided the club to 2020-21 FA Cup and 2021 Community Shield, plus two of the club’s three highest league finishes and consecutive European campaigns.
Leicester Chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha therefore applauded Rogers’ legacy with the following tribute:
Srivaddhanaprabha eventually added that the decision to sack Rogers was tough as he explained:
“Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and, with 10 games of the season remaining, the Board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status.
“The task ahead of us in our final 10 games is clear. We now need to come together – fans, players and staff – and show the poise, quality and fight to secure our position as a Premier League club.”
Assistant Manager, Chris Davies has also been relieved of his duties alongside First Team Fitness Coach, Glen Driscol, with Leicester’s ‘thanks and best wishes for their future careers.’
Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell will take charge of First Team training ahead of Tuesday’s (4 April) home clash against Aston Villa in a Midlands derby at King Power Stadium.
A new managerial appointment will be announced in due course.
