Ivan Toney has earned a recall to England squad for UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine.
Toney’s recall comes after he was controversially left out of the World Cup squad amidst an on-going FA investigation into the 27 year-old’s breaches of betting rules.
His recall also comes after he wasn’t used in England’s Nations League fixtures in September, following his maiden call-up to the squad that month.
Toney is joined up front by Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka as Raheem Sterling and Callum Wilson are both dropped.
In defence, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been dropped for Reece James who returns to the squad after he missed the World Cup due to a knee injury.
Conor Coady and Ben White have also been snubbed as Marc Guehi and Ben Chilwell are also recalled to the squad.
Southgate has retained his midfield selection with the addition of Leicester’s James Maddison, who has been moved across from the forward selection, despite failing to play a single minute at the World Cup due to a knee injury.
In goal, Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale have all retained their spots in the squad due to a lack of goalkeeping competition, with Nottingham Forest loanee, Dean Henderson currently out through injury.
Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions begin their UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifying campaign with an away trip to Italy on Thursday 23 March (7:45pm UK Time), before hosting Ukraine at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 26 March (5:00pm BST).
Both matches will be televised live free-to-air on Channel 4 in the UK.
