Defender, Mads Roerslev has signed a new three-year contract to stay at Brentford until June 2026.
Right-back, Roerslev first arrived at Brentford from Copenhagen in August 2019 as part of their B squad, but broke through into their senior squad two months later and quickly earned a new four-year contract which was set to expire in June 2024.
Roeslev’s performances has since continued to mature despite scoring just one goal in 79 appearances which led the club to award him a new three-year deal in order to secure his services until June 2026, and avoid potential interest in him this summer due to having 12 months left on his old contract.
Addressing the decision to tie Roerslev down to a new contract just weeks after Mathias Jensen agreed a new deal, Brentford manager – Thomas Frank commented: “Mads hugely deserves this new contract. We’ve all been on an incredible journey and Mads is a prime example of that journey.
“He came into the B-team programme at first and then just progressively played more and more, including during our promotion campaign, and has now made the step up to the Premier League.”
Frank proceeded to praise Roerslev for his development throughout his time at the club so far as he continued: “He keeps impressing us in many areas. Defensively, he is very strong one-v-one, defending the box and defending crosses, and offensively he is always coming forward.
“Like every other player, there are areas where he can improve, but he deserves a lot of credit. We are looking forward to continuing the journey with him.”
During his time with the Bees, Roerslev has also graduated through Denmark’s youth system at international level, and was part of a senior squad training camp in late May 2022 despite ultimately not featuring in their UEFA Nations League matches a month later.
Roerslev and Brentford are next in action at home to London rivals, Crystal Palace on Saturday 18 February in a 3pm GMT kick-off.
