Roundup of Fourth Round action in 2022-23 FA Cup, featuring several surprises and a shock elimination.

From Non League’s Wrexham looking to continue their Hollywood blockbuster worthy run to plenty of tricky encounters elsewhere, the Fourth Round had plenty of drama everywhere you looked as teams battled for a spot in the Fifth Round.

Manchester City and Arsenal meanwhile met in a mouth-watering first clash of the season between the two Premier League title contenders, whilst Liverpool once again faced fierce top-flight opposition as they fought to keep their title defence alive.

Now, here is a full roundup of all the action across all 16 ties in the Fourth Round of 2022-23 FA Cup.

 

Non League vs Championship

John Egan’s injury-time strike saw ten-men Sheffield United salvage a 3-3 draw away at Non League’s Wrexham, after Oli McBurnie had initially headed them in front just 74 seconds into the match.

James Jones and Thomas O’Connor though managed to turn the tie around early in the second half for Wrexham, only for Oliver Norwood to equalise prior to Daniel Jebbison’s red card then Paul Mullin restored the hosts’ lead until Egan rescued the Blades a replay.

 

Premier League vs EFL

Kelechi Iheanacho struck a deflected 68th minute winner to seal a narrow away win at League Two’s Walsall in a scrappy Midlands derby.

Jack Harrison provided a goal and assist in a 3-1 win for Leeds away at League One’s Accrington Stanley, during which Patrick Bamford provided the two other assists for the Whites.

Romain Perraud’s brace saw Southampton avoid a cupset at home to second-tier Blackpool, despite enduring a nervy finish after Charlie Patino netted a 67th minute consolatory goal for the Tangerines.

West Ham avoided a cupset at League One’s Derby County as Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio gifted the Hammers a 2-0 victory at Pride Park.

Son Heung-min’s second-half brace and a debut strike from Arnaut Danjuma saw Tottenham comfortably clinch a 3-0 victory at Preston, despite having wasted several first-half chances.

Casemiro’s double and Fred’s strike saw Manchester United comfortably dispatch ten-men Reading 3-1 at Old Trafford, as the Royals saw Andy Carroll red carded before Amadou Mbengue nodded in a late consolatory for ex Utd legend Paul Ince’s team.

Tom Cairney cancelled out Jack Clarke’s sixth minute opener as Fulham fought back to hold Sunderland to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

 

Premier League vs Premier League

Nathan Ake’s 64th minute winner saw Manchester City eliminate 14-time winners and current Premier League leaders, Arsenal in a tense encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

Kaoru Mitoma struck an injury-time winner as Brighton fought back to eliminate title holders – Liverpool 2-1 at AMEX Stadium, after Lewis Dunk had cancelled out Harvey Elliott’s opener in the first half.

 

EFL vs EFL

Harry Clifton’s 67th minute equaliser saw Grimsby Town snatch a 2-2 draw at Luton and a home replay, having initially led through Gavan Holohan’s opener before the Hatters hit back with goals from Elijah Adebayo and Jordan Clark to briefly lead.

Sam Bell’s brace and Alex Scott’s 28th minute goal saw Bristol City comfortably beat Championship rivals, West Bromwich Albion 3-0 at Ashton Gate.

Jordan James’ injury-time strike saw Birmingham City snatch a 2-2 draw away to Championship rivals, Blackburn Rovers, after the hosts had hit back through Bradley Dack and Joe Rankin-Costello to lead following Reda Khadra’s opening goal against his former team.

Goals from Jacob Brown, Josh Laurent and Lewis Baker saw Stoke City avoid a cupset at home to League Two’s Stevenage, in a 3-1 win despite James Reid briefly pulling the visitors level in the 70th minute.

Promise Omochere rescued Fleetwood Town a replay following a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, in which Josh Earl’s 17th minute own goal had put the Owls ahead.

League One’s Ipswich Town held Championship leaders, Burnley to a goalless draw at Portman Road in a scrappy contest.
