Czech Republic’s Roman Stanek has graduated into F2 with Trident for 2023 season.

This move sees Stanek remain with Trident for a second consecutive season as he now steps up to F2, having finished fifth for the Italian team in F3 last season with one victory which came at Imola in the Feature Race.

Last season saw Stanek achieve his best championship finish in single-seater racing since he finished fourth in 2019 ADAC F4, having gone on to only amass 32 points from his first two seasons in F3 across 2020 & 21 seasons for Charouz and Hitech GP respectively.

Speaking about his promotion to F2 and already commencing his pre-season preparations, Stanek commented: “I’m really excited and happy to be working with Trident again this year.

“I am already working with the team and Giacomo, who is a great mentor for me, to achieve our goals. It will be a full year full of exciting and challenging and I’m ready.”

Trident Team Manager, Giacomo Ricci added that the team “are very pleased” to retain Stanek for this season, as the 18 year-old now steps up to F2 which Ricci believes “represents an important turning point” in Stanek’s career.

On the benefits of Stanek staying with the team for his move into F2, Ricci added: “I think it is an added value that Roman can make the leap in class in the name of continuity, remaining within a team that he already knows well and will be able to support and enhance him in the best way.”

Ricci also reflected on Stanek’s progress last season as he described his development as “a remarkable season”, in which he took three second-placed finishes on top of his race victory.

Stanek will partner Clement Novalak who is returning to Trident for a second season in F2, having previously driven for MP Motorsport in the second-tier last season – after initially joining for final two rounds of 2021 season.

Confirmation of Stanek’s seat now means that just seven seats remain vacant ahead of pre-season with Carlin, ART GP and Hitech all yet to even reveal their first driver, whilst MP Motorsport have one seat to fill alongside Dennis Hauger.
