Right-winger, Reda Khadra has signed a 12-month contract extension at Brighton and will spend rest of 2022-23 season on loan at Birmingham City.

Khadra has made just one senior appearance since he joined Brighton in 2020 from Borussia Dortmund II, with most of his time in English Football spent either in the Seagulls’ Under-23s squad or on loan at Blackburn and Sheffield United respectively.

Brighton though have opted to recall Khadra from his loan stint at Sheffield United in which he scored one goal in 16 appearances, with the 21 year-old instead joining the Blades’ Championship rivals, Birmingham City for remainder of this season.

Prior to heading to St Andrew’s Stadium on loan following his recall, Khadra also signed a 12-month contract extension at Brighton which will see him remain on the Seagulls’ books until June 2024 at minimum.

Brighton’s Technical Director, David Weir explained that Khadra was recalled due to a lack of playing time in the last last, with the German having made just two appearances since Sheffield Utd returned from the World Cup break.

On what he hopes sending Khadra on a loan move to Birmingham will achieve, Weir commented: “Reda has had limited football the past few months with Sheffield United, so we hope by recalling him and loaning him to Birmingham that his minutes will go up.

“Despite the limited game time, we’ve been happy with the way Reda has developed this season and he deserves this contract extension.”

Khadra meanwhile explained to Birmingham City’s online channel, BluesTV that he is “excited” to join the club with view of getting “some minutes and play more”

The 21 year-old will wear the number 17 shirt at Birmingham City and could make his debut away to Bristol City on 14 January at 3pm GMT, with Khadra eager to play as he added: “I hope I can get on the pitch quickly and start to play.”
