Zane Maloney will graduate to F2 with Trident for the 2022 season finale in Abu Dhabi from 18-20 November.

Maloney finished his rooke F3 season as vice-champion with Trident following victories in the final three Feature Races of season, which has now seen him earn a promotion to F2 as Calan Williams’ replacement at the Italian team for the final round of the F2 campaign.

The 19 year-old driver will partner Richard Verschoor for the final round.

In a statement explaining Maloney’s promotion, Trident stated that they are “pleased” to sign Maloney after his success in achieving his “excellent goals” in F3, despite missing out on the title to Victor Martins by just five points.

Trident have also pledged to “provide him with maximum support so that he can quickly learn the secrets of the new category.”

Team Manager, Giacomo Ricci is “very proud” to hand Maloney a chance to compete in the F2 season finale, and is confident that he can offer “maximum support and dedication for the challenging Yas Marina Circuit.”

Maloney meanwhile can’t wait to make the step up to F2 and learn about the series plus car as he considers his options for next season.

Speaking about receiving the chance to sample F2 machinery on the series’ final competitive weekend of the season in Abu Dhabi later this month, Maloney said: “I’m really looking forward to Abu Dhabi. It’s an opportunity to learn a lot before the end of the season and prepare me for what my future holds.”

On reuniting with Trident after their F3 exploits as the team look to consolidate ninth in the table, the Barbados-born driver added: “Trident and I had a great year, so to do another race with them and Giacomo is a pleasure.”

Maloney also is looking to use this weekend to continue building his on-track development as he concluded: “Really looking forward to next weekend and it’s an amazing opportunity to keep improving myself on track.”
