Tottenham Hotspur welcome Wolves to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as both teams look to bounce back from draws last weekend.
Victory will see Spurs return to the summit for at least a few hours, whilst Wolves can go as high as fourth with a win depending on size of victory margin.
Team News
Clement Lenglet is set to return for Tottenham after he missed last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea with an adductor injury.
Oliver Skipp (foot) and Cristian Romero (muscle) are ruled out.
Wolves could welcome Joao Moutinho back from a foot injury which has kept him out of their last two matches.
Chiquinho and Raul Jimenez (both knee) are ruled out but Matheus Nunes could make his debut after joining in midweek from Sporting Lisbon.
Stat Attack
- Tottenham have claimed seven points from their last five league meetings against Wolves (W2, D1, L2).
- Wolves have won three of their last five visits to Tottenham (W3, D1, L1).
- Wolves’ Leander Dendoncker has scored in each of his last two appearances against Spurs in all competitions.
- Dejan Kulusevksi is the only Tottenham player to have produced a goal and assist in their first two league matches this season.
- Wolves are looking to avoid consecutive goalless draws for the first time since late November – early December 2021, when they were held by eventually relegated Norwich and Burnley.
Prediction
Despite producing a cracking fightback to snatch a well-deserved point at Chelsea, Tottenham do still have work to do because poor man-marking again was responsible for both conceded goals, so I hope to see improvement and better handling of oppositional pressing intensity.
Wolves meanwhile were simply wasteful against Fulham amidst excellent attacking press but were lucky not to lose, following Jose Sa’s penalty save so it is imperative that their attack improves here if they want at least one point.
Nunes’ arrival though should boost their midfield quality and hopefully create more attacking opportunities but unless Wolves find the final finishing touch, I can’t see Tottenham losing here despite their poor home form in this fixture.
Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Wolves
Result: Tottenham 1-0 Wolves
