Arsenal have signed Lina Hurtig from Juventus for a transfer fee of around £84.3k.
Hurtig has spent the last two seasons completing in Italy’s Serie A with Juventus, where she scored 19 goals in all competitions whilst she also helped Le Bianconere win two Serie A and Italian Super Cup titles apiece plus one Coppa Italia across her time in Italy.
The 26 year-old Swedish versatile midfield and forward player described her move to Arsenal as “great” as she explained why she has joined Arsenal, as she said: “I’ve always, always wanted to play in England, and I’ve always been interested in English football, so it’s super exciting for me to be here.
“I know Arsenal are a great club, with great players and lots of quality, so I think I will enjoy it here.”
Arsenal Women Head Coach and Hurtig’s fellow countryman, Jonas Eidevall added that Hurtig “… is an excellent forward who will bring power and dynamism to our game.”
Eidevall was a pundit for UK broadcaster, BBC at this summer’s UEFA Women’s Euro which has enabled him to first-hand see Hurtig’s talent, as he added: “She has shone in the Champions League and international tournaments and we are delighted that she will be lining up for Arsenal moving forward.”
Arsenal’s Head of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley meanwhile revealed that Hurtig had been “a key target” for the club this summer, so is “pleased” to have completed a transfer deal with Juventus for her services confident that she “… will add quality and experience to our squad.”
Hurtig represents Sweden in international football having made her senior debut in 2014 and has gone on to score 19 goals in 58 appearances, during which she was part of the squad who clinched silver at 2020 Olympics after having finished third at 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
