Midfielder Harvey Elliott has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool until June 2027.
Elliott last summer signed a long-term contract upon his return to Liverpool from a positive loan spell at Blackburn Rovers, although he only managed one goal in 11 appearances last season due to an ankle injury early in the campaign, which sidelined him for five months.
Speaking about his decision to once again commit his long-term future to Liverpool with this new improved contract, Elliott admitted that it is “always nice” to know that he is wanted at his “boyhood club” and is “happy and more excited” to continue his development under Jurgen Klopp.
On what it means to have signed a new contract 12 months on from his last contract renewal, Elliott said: “I’m hoping there are many more memories to come with it but I’m just so excited to put pen to paper and stay here for a lot longer.”
Since he arrived at Anfield from Fulham in July 2019, he has often been on the periphery of the first-team squad, during which he enjoyed a loan stint at Blackburn in 2020-21 to earn first-team experience then suffered an ankle injury at Leeds in September 2021.
Reflecting on his journey so far, Elliott commented: “It’s been a big rollercoaster for me and my family and even for the club. So much has happened in the years that I have been here.”
During his time at Anfield, Elliott has helped the club win 2019 UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup plus more recently, FA Cup and Community Shield.
The 19 year-old though is targeting further trophies as he iterated that he is keen to “win so much more,” in the knowledge that he will be spending the next five seasons at Anfield, which he believes is “always a wonderful feeling” for himself.
