Cambridge United entertain Millwall at Abbey Stadium in the opening Round One tie of 2022-23 Carabao Cup.
Cambridge are looking to avoid a third Round One exit in five seasons with victory, whereas Millwall are looking to advance to the Second Round for the sixth time in seven seasons.
Team News
Cambridge United have no fresh injury concerns to report as Fejiri Okenabirhie remains absent with an Achilles injury.
Millwall could welcome Shaun Hutchinson back into contention after he was rested in Saturday’s win over Stoke with a hamstring injury.
Mason Bennett, Zian Flemming and George Saville could also start after they were utilised as substitutes at the weekend, whilst Danny McNamara and Tyler Burey are amongst those also pushing for starts.
Stat Attack
- Cambridge United lost their only previous League Cup meeting against Millwall – in which the Lions won 3-1 at home in the Second Round last season at The Den.
- Millwall are visiting Abbey Stadium for the first time in this competition but are unbeaten in their last four visits in all competitions (W2, D2).
- Both teams have scored in three of their last four clashes in all competitions at Abbey Stadium.
- Cambridge have won just two of eight League Cup ties played at home this century (W2, D3, L3).
- Millwall have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 League Cup matches excluding penalty shootouts (W6, D1, L3), since drawing 0-0 against Gillingham in August 2018.
Prediction
Having scraped a narrow win over MK Dons in League One on Saturday without facing a shot on target, Cambridge now should have belief that they can come out and cause a cupset if they play like they did on Saturday with clinical finishing.
Millwall meanwhile were simply clinical from set pieces which is likely to be a key area where Cambridge will need to be at their best, otherwise Gary Rowett’s Lions will fancy their chances of a solid win here given their superior quality.
Both teams though are expected to rotate their squads and with Millwall away at a lower league ground, this should be a good match but I still can see an away win coming if they can make their quality count.
Prediction: Cambridge United 0-1 Millwall
Result: Cambridge United 1-0 Millwall
