Blackburn Rovers have signed midfielder Tyler Morton on a season-long loan from Liverpool for 2022-23 season.

Morton’s move comes after he broke through into Liverpool’s first team last season as a substitute in their Carabao Cup victory at Norwich in September 2021, before he went on to make eight further senior appearances without scoring in all competitions.

The 19 year-old had graduated through the Reds’ academy after he rejected an offer from local rivals, Everton as a child, having been spotted by Liverpool scouts whilst playing for Greenleas junior team in Wallasey, Merseyside.

“I’m absolutely buzzing and I can’t wait to get going at such an historic club,” commented Morton as he discussed his loan move with RoversTV after signing his loan deal.

With increased competition at Liverpool this season following the arrivals of; Calvin Ramsay, Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez, Morton is happy to head to Ewood Park on loan as he added: “It’s really exciting for me and it was a very easy decision for me to make.”

On what it means to play for Blackburn after fellow Liverpool youngster – Harvey Elliott enjoyed a successful loan stint in 2020-21 season, Morton continued: “I was desperate to get the move over the line. I’m very happy to be a Liverpool player but I need this experience to come and play for such a club like Rovers.

“It’s a massive thing for me to come here and I’m looking forward to showing the fans, the Head Coach and my new team-mates exactly what I’ve got.

Rovers’ Director of Football – Gregg Broughton added that the club have had to play the patience game due to Morton’s involvement in pre-season at Liverpool.

Broughton went on to explain that securing Morton on loan was ideal because Rovers needed another central midfielder, yet bringing Morton in on loan prevented the possibility of blocking the pathways of the club’s own young midfielders into the senior team.

Morton could make his debut for Blackburn away at Swansea City on Saturday 6 August and will be eligible for cup matches, except any ties against Liverpool.
