Following an entertaining French Grand Prix, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is assured of the title lead heading into the summer break, but he will be eager to further extend his lead to ease his comfort heading into the second half of the season.
Ferrari and Charles Leclerc though will be eager to return to winning ways as they seek to reignite their now rocky title hopes, thus setting up a crucial race in terms of the title fight.
Several other teams meanwhile will be looking to head into the summer break on a high with momentum ready for the second half of the season.

Five Key Pointers
- Given the high downforce nature of the Hungaroring, this circuit could well suit Ferrari who need a clean race if want to reignite their title hopes.
- Hungaroring is a circuit where it is difficult to overtake unless tyre degradation comes into play, which means that Qualifying could well be crucial in determining the likely race result.
- Despite continuing to lack single-lap pace in Qualifying, Mercedes’ race pace has improved but this circuit has often been bumpy which could mean the return of porpoising for Mercedes.
- Williams ran upgrades in France which saw Alex Albon show further competitiveness in Qualifying, which will put more pressure on Nicholas Latifi to deliver amidst questions over his F1 future.
- Traction out of Turn 14 will be crucial in the race to defending off drivers close behind on the long run to Turn One.
Last Time Out
A rain shower around 30 minutes before the race start in 2021 led the entire field except Antonio Giovinazzi to start on intermediate tyres as the Italian opted for wet tyres, with Lewis Hamilton leading from pole as mayhem unfolded behind him at Turn One.
Six drivers consequently were eliminated due to separate collisions as the red flag came out on Lap 2 but as the race restarted 25 minutes later, the track had dried sufficiently for dry tyres as everyone but Hamilton pitted at the end of Lap 3 which led to a farcical one-driver restart on the grid.
Hamilton pitted at the end of the next lap which unleashed Esteban Ocon into the lead as he fought off Sebastian Vettel to the checkered flag in a dramatic duel for his maiden F1 victory, although Vettel was later disqualified due to a shortage of fuel.
Due to Vettel’s disqualification, Hamilton finished second ahead of Carlos Sainz whilst Williams collected their first double-points finish since 2018 Italian Grand Prix, as Latifi finished seventh ahead of George Russell.
