Manchester United Sign Tyrell Malacia in £14.6m Deal From Feyenoord

Manchester United have signed left-back, Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord in a deal worth £14.6m on a four-year contract.

Malacia graduated through Feyenoord’s Youth Academy and went on to score four goals in 136 appearance for the first-team, whilst also progressing through Netherlands’ system up to the senior national team where he has earned five caps.

Utd will pay an initial £12.9m transfer fee but potential add-ons will see the fee possibly rise to £14.6m.

Speaking about his decision to depart Feyenoord for Old Trafford, the 22 year-old left-back said: “It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United.

“This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager [Erik ten Hag] leading us.”

Malacia also added that he knows what will be expected of him under new manager – Erik Ten Hag, having previously played for Feyenoord against his former Ajax team in the Dutch Eredivisie in recent seasons.

On the pressure of playing in Utd shirt, Malacia commented: “Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt.”

Malacia also paid tribute to Feyenoord for their support throughout his career so far as he added: “I’ll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given to me and my family.

“None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for them. Now I’m ready to focus on the future with United, and help my new club achieve success.”

Utd’s Technical Director, John Murtough described Malacia as “… an exciting, dynamic young footballer with excellent experience for his age,” as the youngster prepares for his first season outside of Dutch domestic football.

Malacia could make his competitive Utd debut at home on Sunday 7 August as the Red Devils host Brighton at Old Trafford in the Premier League live on Sky Sports.
