Arsenal have signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City in a £45m transfer deal.

Jesus began his career at Palmeiras, Sao Paulo, Brazil where he graduated through their youth system before scoring 28 goals in 83 senior appearances across 2015 & 16 seasons, prior to his move to Man City in January 2017.

At City, Jesus established himself as a first-team regular with 95 goals in 236 appearances in six seasons, during which he helped the Citizens to four Premier League titles, three EFL Cup honours, two Community Shields and one FA Cup title.

Jesus is now Arsenal’s fourth signing of this summer’s transfer window after Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner completed their transfers in recent weeks, with the Brazilian having signed a long-term contract with the Gunners.

Speaking about the decision to sign Jesus, manager – Mikel Arteta praised the club for securing a top signing as he said: “I’m very excited. The club has done a tremendous job to recruit a player of this stature.

“I know Gabriel personally very well, and we all know him well from his time in the Premier League and being really successful here.”

Technical Director, Edu meanwhile is “delighted” to welcome Jesus to Arsenal as he iterated that the 25 year-old had been on Arsenal’s radar “for a long time now.”

Jesus meanwhile took to Twitter to say farewell to Man City supporters as he tweeted:

Man City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain issued the following statement on Jesus’ departure as he commented: “Gabriel is a fantastic professional and I want to thank him for what he has given Manchester City since he came here in 2017.

“His hard work and dedication to this Club cannot be questioned.

“He has been a brilliant servant and I have no doubt he will continue to be a success.”

Jesus has also made 56 appearances for Brazil in international football during which he scored 19 goals, and was part of Brazil’s winning 2018 Superclásico de las Americas and 2019 Copa America teams.

Arsenal have confirmed that Jesus will wear the number nine shirt for 2022-23 season, which has been vacated by Alexandre Lacazette, following the French striker’s departure at end of last season upon expiry of his contract.
