Arsenal have completed the signing of goalkeeper, Matt Turner From New England Revolution on a five-year contract until June 2027.
In February, Arsenal agreed an initial £4.9m transfer fee with New England Revolution to sign Turner on 1 July 2022, with the transfer fee potentially rising to £8.14m in total once add-ons have been factored in.
Turner departs New England Revolution having made 111 appearances in all competitions despite failing to win any major trophies with the US-based club, having signed for the club in 2016 and spent two seasons on loan at Richmond Kickers across 2016 & 17 seasons.
During his time at New England Revolution, Turner made his international debut for USA last year and has since notched up 18 international caps, whilst playing a crucial role in their victorious CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign last summer which earned him the Golden Glove Award.
Speaking about the decision to sign the 28 year-old American goalkeeper to bolster their goalkeeping line-up, manager – Mikel Arteta said: “Matt is an experienced goalkeeper who will bring high quality to our squad.
“He has shown with his performances in recent years in both the MLS and at international level with the United States that he is a goalkeeper who will give us added strength going into next season.
“We welcome Matt and his family to the club and we look forward to working together in the years to come.”
Arsenal’s Technical Director, Edu added that he is “delighted” to complete the transfer of Turner as he described the American as “… a goalkeeper with established qualities and experience, who will be a great addition to our squad.”
Explaining what motivated Arsenal to sign Turner alongside their experienced goalkeeping roster of Aaron Ramsdale, Bernd Leno and Alex Runarsson, Edu said: “We identified Matt some time ago and worked hard to ensure that his transfer was complete so he could join us in time for our pre-season in July.
“We now look forward to Matt joining us, settling into his new home and working ahead of next season.”
Turner will wear the number 30 shirt for the new season.
