Alexandre Lacazette will depart Arsenal at the end of June 2022 upon expiry of his contract.
Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon in July 2017 and has gone on to score 71 goals in 206 appearances across all competitions, with his first competitive goal for Arsenal coming on his Premier League debut a month later as he netted a second-minute opener in a 4-3 victory at home to Leicester.
The French striker has also enjoyed success during his time in North London as he helped the Gunners win the 2017 Community Shield on penalties against Chelsea after a 1-1 draw, in what was his proper competitive debut for Arsenal.
Lacazette then was part of Arsenal’s successful FA Cup winning team in 2019-20 season, despite failing to score any goals in four appearances during that season’s competition.
Addressing fans on the decision to not renew Lacazette’s contract, manager – Mikel Arteta said: “Laca has been a fantastic player for us.
“He’s been a real leader on and off the pitch and has been a very important influence to our younger players.
“His commitment with us has been exceptional and we wish him and his family success and happiness.”
Arsenal’s Technical Director, Edu meanwhile issued the following message on behalf of the entire club: “A big thank you to Laca from everyone at Arsenal.
“He’s been really important for us. “He will always be part of the Arsenal family and we wish him well for everything in the future.”
Lacazette won’t be the only Arsenal player departing on a free transfer this summer with Under-18s midfielder, Luigi Gaspar also released from his contract, whilst Konstantinos Mavropanos and Mateo Guendouzi have been sold to VFB Stuttgart and Marseille respectively.
Across within Arsenal’s Women squad, Lisa Evans and Viktoria Schnaderbeck will also leave the club on free transfers, following five and four seasons respectively at Arsenal.
