BBC Announce 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro Coverage Plans

BBC have announced plans for their coverage of 2022 UEFA Women’s Euros between 6-31 July. 

The tournament is being hosted in England with Sarina Weigman’s Lionesses amongst the early title favourites heading into the competition.

Like at 2019 FIFA World Cup, Gabby Logan will lead BBC’s live coverage across BBC One and BBC Two plus BBC iPlayer, with Alex Scott, Reshmin Chowdhury, Eilidh Barbour and Kelly Somers also set to host matches across the tournament.

Somers will also serve as tournament reporter when she isn’t hosting live matches, which will see her deliver live updates from the Lionesses camp alongside Jo Currie, who will be the main England camp reporter throughout the tournament.

Scott meanwhile will also be a pundit at selected matches when not hosting the live coverage, where she will be joined by a star-studded line-up of current and ex England stars:

  • Anita Asante
  • Izzy Christensen
  • Rachel Brown-Finnis
  • Sue Smith

Away from punditry and presenting duty, Scott will also host a new BBC iPlayer documentary titled ‘Alex Scott: The Future Of Women’s Football’ looking at the growth of the women’s game both in UK and internationally.

There will also be a variety of pundits from across other nations featuring in the tournament, including Northern Ireland and Glentoran forward, Caragh Hamilton plus former Northern Ireland captain – Gail Redmond.

Spain and Manchester City midfielder, Vicky Losada will also be involved as will be Arsenal Women Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall, ex France defender – Laura Georges, Netherlands’ Anouk Hoogendjik and ex Birmingham City Women manager – Scott Booth.

Robyn Cowen and Vicki Sparks will head up the commentary team across all platforms, with Jonathan Pearce, Pien Meulensteen, and Mark Scott also on the commentary team.

Thomas Kane and Nicola McCarthy will follow Northern Ireland’s journey with Kane reporting from the camp, whilst McCarthy will be their tournament reporter.

BBC will televise seven Group Stage matches live on BBC One including all three of England and Northern Ireland’s group matches, whilst the rest of coverage will predominantly air on BBC Two with some final group matches airing on BBC Three or BBC iPlayer.

Full details for coverage across the knockout stages will be confirmed in due course once the group stage begins to reach its conclusion between 15-18 July.

BBC will also televise a special Women’s Euros edition of A Question of Sport at 8pm BST on BBC One on Friday 8 July, albeit up against Germany’s Group B clash against Denmark across on BBC Two

Daily Euros podcast will run on BBC Sounds across the tournament with Sounds also providing commentary alongside 5 Live of England and Northern Ireland group matches plus every knockout match.

Emma Saunders will lead BBC Radio coverage with Steve Crossman, Ben Haines and Juliette Ferrington also providing commentary, although Ferrington will also follow and provide radio reports on the England camp throughout the tournament.

Sparks, Cowen and Meulensteen will also provide radio commentary alongside Alistair Bruce Ball and Seb Hutchinson, with Christensen and Asante also on co-commentary duty across TV and Radio whilst Natasha Dowie, Stephen Craigan, Pat Nevin and Julien Laurens will also be on radio duty.

5 Live Sport commentators and pundits will also provide behind-the-scenes access throughout the tournament.

BBC Sport Website will provide a mixture of written and video content alongside live-text commentaries, match reports, in-play statistics and player ratings, on top of in-match video clips, match highlights, video features and masterclasses from various players.

Match highlights will also be made available on YouTube and various social media channels alongside behind-the-scenes and original content.
