Tottenham Hotspur have announced that their women’s team will play home matches at Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road Stadium from 2022-23 season onwards.

This announcement means that Tottenham Hotspur Women won’t play their home matches at Barnet’s The Hive Stadium, following the conclusion of a three-year tenancy since they first moved to The Hive ahead of 2019-20 season.

Throughout their time at The Hive, Spurs have won 15, drawn seven and lost 10 of 32 matches in all competitions.

Spurs Women will instead play home matches in Women’s Super League and cup competitions predominantly at Brisbane Road – home of EFL League Two’s Leyton Orient, with some selected matches instead taking place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as has been the case in recent seasons.

This move also marks a further closing of Tottenham’s connection to Orient, having previously played matches at the stadium for home matches of reserve team and Academy teams over the years.

Several players have also previously played for both clubs whilst ex Spurs defender, Justin Edinburgh was manager of Orient until his tragic death in 2019, with both clubs honouring his memory in annual pre-season friendlies between either the senior team or Under-23 levels.

“The new partnership with Spurs is an incredibly exciting one”, commented Mark Devlin, Leyton Orient CEO on the decision to groundshare with Tottenham Women.

Devlin went on to iterate that this move will bring plenty of positives for Orient as he explained: “Hosting their women’s team here will bring a number of significant benefits for Leyton Orient, including improved infrastructure to our stadium, the potential to gain some new supporters from the 22/23 season, and a boost to our own women’s team.”

Orient Female Development Officer, Olivia Worsfold meanwhile added that she believes this new partnership will serve as a “highly beneficial” move for the club’s own women’s team.

Worsfold added that there could be new opportunities for Leyton Orient Women as she explained: “After a positive first season in the Greater Women’s Football League, we’re looking forward to working with Spurs to see what opportunities we can explore.”

Both clubs will also collaborate on a new project to install a hybrid pitch at Brisbane Road and improve Orient’s floodlight system.
