Semi Ajayi has signed a new two-year contract extension to stay at West Bromwich Albion until June 2025.
Ajayi first joined West Brom from Rotherham in July 2019 for an undisclosed transfer fee on a four-year contract until June 2023, which has now been extended by two more years to keep the 28 year-old at The Hawthorns until June 2025.
During his three seasons so far at West Brom, Ajayi has scored nine goals in 110 appearances across all competitions, as well as playing a role in the Baggies’ promotion winning squad of 2019-20 Championship season only to be relegated from the Premier League at end of last season.
Speaking about his decision to extend his contract by two further seasons beyond the conclusion of next season, Ajayi said: “I’m really, really pleased to secure my future here at this football club.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here, through the highs and the lows, and I’m excited about the future.”
Ajayi also revealed that discussions had been ongoing for a lengthy period of time but is focused on chasing promotion next season, as he continued: “The talks have been going on for a very long time so I’m glad we’ve finally got it all sorted.
“I can now look forward to next season and doing my best to try and help this club get back to the Premier League.”
West Brom manager, Steve Bruce added that he is “absolutely delighted” to secure Ajayi for the next three seasons, as he singled out the defender as a key player since he took charge in February.
Explaining why he is happy to retain Ajayi, Bruce added: “He’s arguably been our best player since I arrived at the club back in February, and I believe he has all the attributes needed to be a Premier League defender.
“This signing is key for us in terms of what we want to do next season and the rebuild which needs to happen. Semi is a crucial player in our team and I’m delighted he’s extended his stay.”
