Bournemouth midfielder, David Brooks has announced that he is in remission from Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Brooks was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin Lymphoma in mid-October 2021 after withdrawing from Wales’ squad through illness, which has led to him missing the majority of Bournemouth’s season as he received treatment.
Following an update in early January, Brooks has since completed his treatment and issued a full statement on his Twitter account, in which he expressed ”a huge thank you to all of the incredible medical staff for their amazing work and support throughout the process.”
Last week, Brooks met with his specialist following a review of his final test results from which he was “delighted to say the treatment was successful and I can now say that I have been given the all clear and am now cancer free.”
Reflecting on what it meant to be in remission amidst support from football fans beyond just Bournemouth supporters, Brooks said: “Those words feel incredible to say and I am so thankful for all your messages and good wishes, these really helped me through the tough times.”
Brooks will now begin his “journey back to full fitness” as he looks to resume his playing career with Bournemouth, who currently face a huge Sky Bet Championship showdown at home to Nottingham Forest this evening in the race for promotion.
Speaking about what it has been like watching Bournemouth this season from the sidelines, Brooks added: “The lads at Bournemouth have had an excellent season so far and I am looking forward to being back at The Vitality to cheer the team on as we head into the most important fixtures of the season.”
“I am determined to work my hardest over the months ahead and I can’t wait to be back out there and playing in front of you on the pitch in the not so distant future.” concluded Brooks as he prepares to begin rebuilding his match fitness.
