Tobin Heath has departed Arsenal Women via ‘mutual agreement’ after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury.
Heath joined Arsenal on an one-year contract in September as a free agent following her departure from Manchester United at the end of last season, having joined the Red Devils in search of game time but endured an injury-hit campaign.
Having enjoyed a stronger second season in English Football with the Gunners, Heath suffered a hamstring injury in training last week which prematurely has ended her season with the player and club agreeing to terminate her contract early.
Arsenal released the following statement confirming Heath’s exit which said: ‘With Tobin’s one-year contract ending at the end of the 2021/22 season, it has been agreed by all parties for Tobin to be released early to enable her to travel back to the USA and focus on her rehabilitation with her personal medical team.’
Speaking of her decision to leave Arsenal now in order to focus on her recovery, Heath spoke of feeling “disappointed” that she won’t see out the season as the Gunners continue to battle Chelsea for the 2021-22 Women’s Super League title.
The 33 year-old proceeded to pay tribute to Arsenal for their support as she commented: “I would like to thank everyone at the Club who has made me feel so welcome. Arsenal is a special Club and this is a special group of players.”
Heath also iterated her belief that the club is capable of fighting for titles in coming seasons as she vowed to lend her support from afar, as she added: “I have no doubt that they are bound for success in the near future and I’ll be supporting the team with the rest of the Arsenal family from now on.”
Arsenal Women Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall meanwhile described Heath as “a pleasure to work with” as he acknowledged her impact on the squad, as he said: “She has made an important contribution both on and off the pitch, with her mentality and character setting a great example to the entire group.”
During her time at Arsenal, Heath scored three goals in 18 appearances across all competitions.
