Aston Villa have announced that their men’s first-team will undertake a pre-season tour to Australia ahead of 2022-23 season.

This tour will mark the first time that Villa are playing pre-season friendlies in Australia after largely staying within the British Isles for each of their last three pre-seasons, aside from trips to Minnesota, USA, and Leipzig, Germany in July & August 2019.

As part of their tour Down Under, Villa will take on Premier League rival – Leeds United and Australia’s Brisbane Roar in the inaugural three-team Queensland Champions Cup.

Villa’s first match will see them play Leeds at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday 17 July in Brisbane, with the stadium set to stage eight matches at 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup – including the Third-Place Play-Off match.

Steven Gerrard’s Villains will then meet Brisbane Roar three days later on Wednesday 20 July at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Townsville, in their concluding match of the friendly tournament.

Villa will conclude their Australian tour with a friendly against Manchester United in Perth at Optus Stadium, which will take place on Saturday 23 July in the ICON Festival of Football.

Tickets for the Queensland Champions Cup will be put on sale on Friday 29 April at 1pm AEST (4am BST UK Time).

Villa supporters will then be able to buy tickets on pre-sale for their friendly against Man Utd from 3 May at 2pm AWST (7am BST) for 23 hours until 1pm AWST (6am BST) on Wednesday 4 May.

The club have also confirmed that VillaTV+ will stream all three pre-season matches live for supporters unable to travel to Australia.

Villa are also seeking to arrange pre-season fixtures based in the UK either side of their trip Down Under, with further information to be announced once opposition and finalised details concerning the matches have been confirmed in due course.

The 2022-23 Premier League season will get underway on the weekend of 5-8 August with fixtures set to be released on Thursday 16 June at 9am BST.
