Leeds United Appoint Jesse Marsch As Manager

Leeds United have appointed Jesse Marsch as their new manager following Marcelo Bielsa’s sacking.

A mixture of injuries and slump in results saw Leeds United chairman, Andrea Radrizzani forced into “the toughest decision” of sacking Bielsa with the club sat 16th in the Premier League and only two points above the relegation zone.

Radrizzani has since moved swiftly to replace the much-loved manager with Marsch who had left Bundesliga’s RB Leipzig in December, after an inconsistent stint in charge of the German club following his arrival last summer.

The 48 year-old American will also bring plenty of experience after also previously managing Montreal Impact, NY Red Bulls plus RB Salzburg, where he guided the Austrian team to four domestic trophies in 2019-20 & 20-21 seasons.

Leeds’ Director of Football, Victor Orta is “delighted” to secure Marsch’s services to lead the club forward “into this new chapter” following Bielsa’s exit.

Explaining the decision to appoint Marsch as the new manager, Orta commented: “Jesse is someone we identified a number of years ago during his time at Red Bull Salzburg and we believe his philosophy and style of football aligns with that of the club and will suit the players very well.

“We have a long-term plan and firmly believe he can take Leeds United to the next level and are excited for what the future holds.”

Leeds’ Chief Executive, Angus Kinnear meanwhile added that Marsch was their first-choice replacement for Bielsa, stating their belief that “he has the courage and ambition to build on the strong foundations we have created over the last four years and elevate the performance of the club over the long-term.”

Kinnear also called for unity amongst supporters and the club as he added: “At this challenging time, it is important that the club remains united from top to bottom.

“The fans have been amazing throughout Andrea’s tenure and we have no doubt they will unite behind Jesse and ensure the team quickly returns to winning with style.”

Marsch’s first match in charge of Leeds will see the Yorkshire club visit Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday 5 March 2022, in a 12:30pm GMT kick-off live on BT Sport.

Marsch will then make his home debut at Elland Road on Thursday 10 March as Leeds host Aston Villa in a rearranged match, with kick-off set for 7:45pm exclusively live on Amazon Prime for UK fans.
