2021-22 Premier League: Week 27 – Burnley vs Leicester

Sean Dyche’s Burnley face a tricky test in their fight for survival as the Clarets welcome Leicester City to Turf Moor.

Victory would see Burnley climb out of the relegation zone and move up to 15th in the table, whereas Leicester can go as high as 11th with a win.

Erik Pieters is a doubt for Burnley after suffering a knock to his knee in Saturday’s draw at Crystal Palace.

Dale Stephens (knock) is a doubt but Matej Vydra (hernia) and Johann Berg Gudmundsson (calf) remain absent.

Leicester could welcome James Justin back after the full-back was sidelined with a hamstring injury in recent weeks.

Jamie Vardy (thigh) could also feature but Ryan Bertrand (knee), Wesley Fofana (leg), Jonny Evans and Timothy Castagne (both thigh) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Burnley have won just one of their last seven meetings against Leicester (W1, D3, L3).
  • Leicester have won just one of their last five visits to Turf Moor (W1, D1, L3).
  • Both teams have scored in seven of their last eight Premier League clashes.
  • Coming into this match, Burnley’s Dwight McNeil has made the joint-highest amount of tackles in the Premier League this season, having managed 59 tackles alongside Newcastle’s Joelinton.
  • Leicester have conceded 40 goals and kept just one clean sheet in 18 away games in all competitions this season.

Prediction

Having hit their strides in recent weeks, Burnley will be pleased to have scraped a point at Palace on Saturday because they showed excellent aggressive press and movement in attack, yet wasted their chances through rash finishing.

Leicester meanwhile had the weekend off so I am expecting them to be fully rested after last Thursday’s win at Randers in Europe, yet I want to see them bring their quality from that game into this domestic match because too often they have been sloppy domestically this season.

Now if Leicester can do that and Burnley are able to continue their progress, I reckon that we could have a decent game on our hands and a draw would be a fair result if Leicester continue to be inconsistently sloppy.

Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Leicester

Result: Burnley 0-2 Leicester
