2021-22 Premier League: Week 27 – Leeds vs Tottenham

Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur both look to bounce back from tough defeats in midweek as they meet at Elland Road.

Victory would see Leeds climb to 14th in the table for a few hours at minimum, whereas Tottenham can mover up to seventh with a win.

Robin Koch could return for Leeds after recovering from a head injury which forced him to miss their midweek loss at Liverpool.

Diego Llorente (hamstring) is unlikely to feature as Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips (both hamstring), Patrick Bamford (foot), Leo Fuhr and Sam Greenwood (both knee) all remain absent.

Tottenham could welcome Oliver Skipp (groin) and Japhet Tanganga (knee) back into contention if the pair are declared match fit.

Spurs manager, Antonio Conte could also opt to rotate his squad as the club plays their third match in seven days, with Sergio Reguilon, Harry Winks and Lucas Moura amongst those chasing a start here.

Stat Attack

  • Leeds have claimed just four points from their last eight league matches against Tottenham (W1, D1, L6).
  • Tottenham have won just one of their last seven league visits to Elland Road (W1, D1, L5)
  • Both teams have scored in their last three meetings at Elland Road in all competitions.
  • No Premier League player has been brought on as a substitute on more occasions this season than Leeds’ Tyler Roberts, who has made 15 of his 22 league appearances as a substitute.
  • Son Heung-min has taken more corners in the Premier League this season than any other Tottenham player, having delivered 98 corners in 21 league appearances.

Prediction

Following Wednesday’s shambolically outclassed away performance at Liverpool where their defence were literally horrific in basic ability let alone defending, Leeds definitely need a huge turnaround if they’re to stand any chance in this match.

Tottenham meanwhile continue to be inconsistent given that they went from a stunning display at Manchester City to losing at then rock-bottom Burnley within five days, which is frankly worrying given what unfolded after their previous Premier League loss to the Clarets.

Antonio Conte though should take heart from how his Spurs squad fought hard at Turf Moor because they weren’t completely outplayed, yet were incredibly wasteful with their chances so a reaction is likely here and I can see that happening if Leeds don’t buck up their ideas.

Elland Road though is one of Tottenham’s recent weak grounds so scoring first will be crucial for the visitors because if they do that, I can see them digging out a rare away win at Leeds.

Prediction: Leeds 1-2 Tottenham

Result: Leeds 0-4 Tottenham
