2021-22 Premier League: Week 27 – Crystal Palace vs Burnley

Crystal Palace look to move closer towards survival as Patrick Vieira’s Eagles host Burnley at Selhurst Park.

If Southampton lose to Norwich in Friday Night Football, victory would see Palace move above the Saints into 10th in the table.

Burnley meanwhile can climb out of the relegation zone with a win if Newcastle lose elsewhere, otherwise they could climb out for a minimum of a few hours with Everton playing in the evening kick-off.

Vincente Guaita is set to return in goal for Crystal Palace after recovering from a knee injury suffered last weekend in a narrow defeat against Chelsea.

Nathan Ferguson (hamstring) and Joel Ward (knock) remain ruled out.

Burnley could welcome Ashley Westwood back from illness which forced him to miss their midweek win at home against Tottenham.

Charlie Taylor (ankle) and Maxwel Cornet (Achilles) could also feature but Johann Berg Gudmundsson (muscle) and Matej Vydra (hernia) remain ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • Crystal Palace have claimed only four points from their last five meetings against Burnley (W1, D1, L3).
  • Burnley are unbeaten in four of their last six visits to Selhurst Park (W3, D1, L2).
  • Burnley’s Ben Mee has scored in two of his last four appearances against Crystal Palace.
  • No Palace player has provided more assists in the Premier League this season than Michael Olise (4).
  • Three of Burnley’s seven headed league goals this season have been scored by Ben Mee.

Prediction

Having suffered a narrow defeat against Chelsea last weekend, Palace certainly responded with a clinical attacking win at Watford in midweek with great movement on and off the ball, even though they were defensively caught out from a corner moments after their first goal.

Burnley meanwhile seem to have finally clicked properly in the past week with four goals without conceding, which should give them plenty of confidence coming into this game especially after a clinical win over Tottenham on Wednesday evening.

I am therefore intrigued about how this game is going to unfold because Palace’s expansive style will face a leaky but tricky defence, so expect plenty of entertainment here but I am going for an away win because Sean Dyche’s Clarets seem to be on a roll at the minute.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-2 Burnley

Result: Crystal Palace 1-1 Burnley
