Aston Martin Unveil AMR22 Car Ahead Of 2022 F1 Season

Aston Martin have unveiled their AMR22 car which will be raced by Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel throughout 2022 F1 season.

The AMR22 car won’t sport the sponsorship branding of BWT following the conclusion of their partnership at end of 2021, yet retains its green livery despite there being a tweak of shading to make the green look lighter following a disappointing dark pantone last season.

A narrow lime green line can also be found running along the sideboards and top of engine cover.

Further changes include wheel covers, rectangular front none, fairing winglets across front tyres and radiators across the sideboards for cooling purposes.

Speaking about the car changes and his expectations for the season, Stroll commented: “Well I think it’s an very exciting time for Formula One. I think it’s an opportunity for all the teams with these new regulations but for us, we have to remember it is about long-term vision…”

“This stage it is important to get out there and understand this car, learn about it as it is going to be so different to what we are used to in the last few years.”

Vettel meanwhile described the opportunity to see the car as a “very exciting moment” but is eager to hit the racetrack in pre-season testing as he said: “It’s really exciting to drive since this year there are so many novelties, so many things we are keen to find out and look forward to.”

Although 2022 will mark his 16th season as a F1 driver, Vettel is aware of that nothing is ever the same as he added: “At the same time there are so many new things with new tyres, completely new cars and a lot of new challenges.

I hope the field will be closer together and that will give us more chance to race and race more at the front than we did last year but realistically the answer is that we don’t know.”

Aston Martin Chairman, Lawrence Stroll meanwhile opened the launch show by iterating that this season is the second campaign in “a five-year plan” of the team’s ambition to win the driver’s title.

Commenting about what is needed to continue their progress, Stroll said: “To win in Formula One, everything has to be just in the right place and a lot of moving parts come together. The sport is constantly evolving and unless you evolve with it you will be left behind.

“You need the right people in every part of the team and the right partners to help make it all possible. We are going to do it as a team because it takes the power of a team to be successful in Formula One.”

This season will also see Aston Martin begin to move into their new factory which Stroll has hailed as “a serious statement of intent” with the aim of full operations as of 2023 which brings all F1 operations together onto one campus in an “efficient” manner.

Jessica Hawkins will continue as Driver Ambassador whilst Nico Hulkenberg will again stay as Reserve & Simulator Driver this season.

This season also sees a change in Team Principal with Mike Krack now in charge following Otmar Szafnauer’s exit last month.
