Lando Norris has committed his F1 future to McLaren until the end of 2025 season.

Having graduated through McLaren’s Young Driver Programme, Norris has impressed across his first three seasons in F1 with five podiums plus a maiden pole position at 2021 Russian Grand Prix, only for a strategic error to deny him victory at that race.

Norris has also enjoyed a steady rise up the driver standings as he finished sixth last season with a 111 point increase on the 49 points he scored in his rookie season in 2019, en route to a 11th placed championship finish that campaign.

McLaren last season announced that the team and Norris had agreed a new contract which has now been agreed to be a new four-year contract, beginning this season with the Brit staying with McLaren until the end of the 2025 season.

Speaking about his new four-season contract, Norris said: “Teams are about people, and I love the people and feel at home at McLaren. I have grown up in this team and I’m part of this journey we’re all on.

“Last season was another great step, both in my career and the team’s performance, and I see and feel all the work, investment, and commitment for the team to be in a position to challenge for wins and titles in the future.

“This all gives me huge confidence looking forward, so it was a natural decision to extend our relationship for the next few years.”

McLaren Team Principal, Andreas Seidl added that Norris’ decision to agree to a contract extension with the team is reflective of their “commitment but also our belief and confidence in his talent.”

Seidl also iterated that Norris’ contract extension serves as “a strong sign of trust and commitment” in the team ahead of F1’s new era of technical regulations, amidst rumours linking Norris with a potential future Mercedes drive if Lewis Hamilton retires.

Reflecting on Norris’ development across his first three seasons in F1 after graduating as 2018 F2 Vice-Champion, Seidl added: “Lando has shown impressive growth as a Formula 1 driver over the past four years and has been an instrumental part of the team’s momentum and performance trajectory.

“We are still on our journey to fight at the front and Lando is a key element of our plan, so to lock him into place, alongside Daniel and our senior leadership, gives us stability and continuity as we build towards our ultimate shared goal of world championships.”

McLaren will unveil their new McLaren MCL36 car for the 2022 F1 season on Friday 11 February at 7pm GMT UK Time.
