2021-22 Sky Bet Championship: Week 26 – Sunday

Blackburn Rovers welcome Huddersfield Town to Ewood Park in a huge Super Sunday clash in the Sky Bet Championship.

With Fulham not in action for a third consecutive matchweek, Blackburn can climb to second with at least one point from this match.

Huddersfield can climb as high as fourth with a win but would need West Brom to lose at home to Cardiff in order to move to within seven points of league leaders – Bournemouth, otherwise the Terriers will move above Middlesbrough into fifth.

Blackburn have no fresh injury concerns to report as Ian Poveda (ankle) and Bradley Dack (knee) remain absent.

Huddersfield will be without Naby Sarr after the defender missed Thursday’s win at Nottingham Forest with a back injury.

Danny Ward (illness) and Tom Lees (concussion) are doubts but Alex Vallejo and Jonathan Hogg remain ruled out with knee injuries.

Stat Attack

  • Blackburn have won just one of their last 11 meetings against Huddersfield (W1, D6, L4).
  • Huddersfield are unbeaten in five of their last seven visits to Ewood Park (W1, D4, L2).
  • Ben Brereton Diaz has scored three goals in Blackburn’s last two clashes against Huddersfield.
  • Brereton Diaz has scored seven goals in Blackburn’s last five home matches (W5).
  • Huddersfield have kept just two disciplinary clean sheets in 13 away league games this season.

Prediction

Since enduring a demoralising seven goal defeat against Fulham two months ago, Blackburn have looked rejuvenated with a strong attack-minded pressing style which has caused huge issues for many defences to handle.

Huddersfield meanwhile looked dangerous in Thursday’s win at Forest despite being outplayed but were ultimately clinical with their crossing, which is a strong asset of their style which should give them an aerial threat here.

Add in the fact that this is a crunch clash in the promotion race then I am expecting a good battle because Blackburn play a great ground-based game, whereas Huddersfield has the aerial threat to trouble the hosts who have struggled with corners this season.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a draw because Blackburn will be dangerous in open play given their pressing, yet Huddersfield will be difficult to silence from set pieces unless there is a marked change in defensive approach.

Prediction: Blackburn 1-1 Huddersfield

Result: Blackburn 0-0 Huddersfield
